Howdy joestrom-ga,

What happens you if press and hold down the Play/Pause button on the
Click Wheel? That should turn it off. Thanks!

Howdy joestrom-ga,

Thanks for accepting this as the answer.

The way to turn off an iPod nano is to press and hold the Play/Pause
button located on the Click Wheel.

The following is from the "iPod nano Features Guide" located on the
Apple website.
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPod_nano_Features_Guide.pdf

"Turn off iPod nano ... Press and hold Play/Pause ..."

If you need any clarification, please feel free to ask.

Quite a few others seem to be having this same problem. This may help:

From one user:
"I absolutely love my ipod. I use it in the car and at work all the
time and have never had a problem with it until yesterday. It won't
play any of my songs and won't turn off. The only way I can get it to
turn off is to hold down the menu and play button and reset it, then
turn it off quickly while it seems to be functioning normally. I
highly recommend to all of you that are having problems to take your
ipod to the Apple store you bought it at or call their customer
service department and tell them the problems. I took mine to the
local Apple store and they set me up with a new one. No receipts or
boxes needed. Very nice and knowledgable people. They need to know the
problems so they can work on fixing them."

I have no problem turning off my IPOD...just the Nano. Does it just
go off from inaction:

1) Place iPod nano on firm surface.
2) Briskly move head to come into contact with iPod nano (while
device remains on firm surface).
3) Repeat until
iPod nano ceases to be active
