I'm looking to change Windows XP desktop resolution via a registry key
that I will modify in a login script. I don't know what the key is,
or if there is a different "hack" for this.

What I am looking for is a method to remotely change the desktop
resolution of computers on my domain when the user logs in. I have to
be able to do this without installing any programs on the client
computers. Ideally, it will be a simple registry key I can modify.

Here is a page from a bulletin board at Persystent Technologies
that discusses changing resolution from the registry. The challenge
would be that:

"The location of these regitry [sic] entries differ from pc to pc
depending on type of video card installed."

Therefore, it might be simpler to use a utility such as Resolution
Changer from 12noon.com which allows you to change the resolution
for the duration of the use of a specified program. It also comes
with a Console edition, which can be run from a batch file:

You can download both versions, for free, from this page:

Let me know where this takes you...
