I know that Johnny Marr of the band The Smiths and Ian Mcculloch of
Echo and the Bunnymen worked on an album of tracks that was due to be
delivered to the record company when it got stolen out of a courier's
truck (1993 or there abouts). This finished album was a collaboration
performed and recorded during the time that the Bunnymen had broken
up. I do know some more about this including:
1). The Newspaper the Sun had a track that you could listen to over
the phone in the UK, but it was never released.
2). The conspiracy theory is that Johnny Marr or Ian Mcculloch still
has the tapes and didn't want them released because of the Bunnymen's
reformation of the original band.
3). The tapes were supposedly lost in a currier van hold up in the mid ninties.
4). Two of the songs recorded from these missing MAC/MARR sessions
ended up as re-recorded songs on Electrafixion albums and later as the
World Cup theme song, sung by Ian and the Spice Girls.
5). A uncollaborated tracklisting for the MAC/MARR sessions appears in
the book "Turquiose Days" by Chris J. Adams.
MY QUESTION then is:
How can I find the true tracklisting to the MAC/MARR sessions, obtain
a copy of this bootleg (or MP3's to listen to), and generally find out
more behind this story?
For instance, it would be nice to know who really has the missing tape
and where is it located? Why wasn't it released and what plans are
there to get it into the hands of fans? The more specific and lengthy
the detail, the better.
This will be tricky because I already know a bunch about this topic.
If I could get my hands on the songs, then I would be willing to pay
heavily. Thanks!
