A website that generates a penny for each unique vistor from adwords wouldn't be unheard of. You'd need about 10,000 visitors to even begin to make money from Google Adsense. In the near future Yahoo will roll out its own publishers program that some will find to generate quite a bit more income then adsense. A lot depends on the type of website. Some sites don't lend themselves well to contextual advertising. Personally, I haven't had much luck with affiliate programs. Conversions (the number of vistors who subsequently purchase from the affiliate), have been much to low in my experience to generate any real income. Again the right site with the right affilate could be very profitable with no more than a handful of visitors. Say you have the authorative site on ladybug jewelry. No a hot topic, but there's a really good chance that those searching for it would a) find your site and b)purchase from a recomended affilate listed on the website. If just 5% of your vistors made a purchase that resulted in a commision of $10 you easily could earn $600 a year on 100 vistors a month. cj.com and linkshare.com each have hundreds of advertisers for every type of product or service you can imagine. |

It depends on the website. A highly-targeted niche website that provides useful information to its visitors would generate plenty of Adsense and/or affiliate income with very little traffic since the people coming to the site have very specific interests. Therefore, Adsense ads or other affiliate ads targeted to such a narrow niche would have instant appeal and would result in a very high click thru rate on ads on the site. Additionally, if the Google Adwords Adsense ads on the site are high click value ads (people bidding large dollar amounts for those ads) then your Adsense income would be quite high per click. Advertisers with a product that fits the niche would also be willing to pay a lot to place an ad on such a site if the traffic is so highly targeted.
