Do Guru.com, Elance.com, its owners, or any of their subsidiaries own or license
patents? If so, what are their numbers?

Note: I am primarily interested on patents that protect their
methodologies. I need this information because I am interested in
creating a similar site.

Thank you!

I would hardly believe that they do, since the sites themselves are
pretty simple and a "business concept" (matching between freelancers
and customers) is not something that could be patented.

Business method patents do exist. For more information on Business
Method patents see:

Elance and Guru do not own patents. However there is one patent
assigned to someone in Australia that may have some bearing on your
site.
