A few years ago (no more than three), I found a website for a
manufacturer of felt bags and accessories. I didn't bookmark it, and,
like "the one that got away", I've been searching for it ever since.
Here's the information I've managed to remember about the company and
their products:
- I believe the company was European, perhaps Dutch, Belgian or
Finnish. I also believe it was a company rather than a single
individual or craftsperson.
- The bags were unique in that they weren't sewn, glued or affixed
together in any traditional way. They were made of several pieces of
precisely-cut felt, the edges of which "laced" together to form the
bag. The edges of most pieces were cut into squarish "fingers", kind
of like a series of tongue and groove joints or the teeth of a zipper.
- The site may have also sold rubber or silicone belts with a unique
closure like a zip tie or a ski boot buckle. I'm not 100% sure about
this, though.
- The products' feel was distinctly modern, contemporary,
brightly-colored and "cool".
- The bag themselves were made of two or three different shades of
monochromatic felt (i.e. green pieces and blue pieces); no patterns or
embellishments whatsoever.
- There were at least seven or eight distinct styles of bag; most were
unisex, but there was at least one which was supposed to be a woman's
purse.
- The site may have also sold felt armbands (could also have been
described as cuffs, wristlets, bracelets, etc.) which closed in a
similar manner to the bags - several felt "teeth" sliding through
other felt grooves. The closest thing to these which I've managed to

- The bags were somewhat expensive (perhaps $100+ for some, or the
local-currency equivalent) which is why I didn't buy one at the time.
- The website was designed with Flash and was very slick and minimalist.
- These products may have been sold by a company which also sold very
modernist furniture (lamps made of plush, AstroTurf chairs, etc.)...
again, not 100% sure on this one.
- From my various Web-wanderings, I've deduced that these are NOT the
bags currently being offered by: Pia Wallen, do_loop, Felt Studio,
Red Maloo, or Conphorm.
Hopefully I haven't imagined these bags and their manufacturer still exists! |
