This is a question for anyone with organic, direct, personal or professional knowledge of mosquito control using a product called Mosquito Magnet or similar brands/technogoy. I do not want, and will reject, answers from people who want to provide research, links, quotes, or other indirect references; I also request that these types of researchers DO NOT TIE UP this question while probing my willingness to consider their approach. Again, I want organic comments from anyone with personal or professional, direct or scientific knowledge of the product or technology. I have a round, domed, 1 acre lot, jutting out into a protected cove of large lake, connected to the mainland by a 30 foot road. Think of an epoglotis in the mouth of a cove. House sits in the middle on top of the dome. Dome is about 15 feet above waterline. Road connects at north end, as in 360 degrees. Lot is wooded with pines and has dense brush about 3 feet tall all over. Prevailing winds from the NNW. Porch wraps around 3 sides: West, South, East. Am considering a Mosquito Magnet with solar power and wonder if experience is good, and which quadrant would be best for placement. |

Hi Jim, I read your second paragraph: no research, etc., just hands-on experience. If that is what you want, fine, but it seems to me that this will very much limit the response to a question that you have valued highly. In effect, any responses will be those that can be found on forums that discuss Mosquito Magnet. I found a couple. Some of the commenters were worried about the fact that MM uses CO2, but there were a couple who have MM and say it works. http://www.newhampshire.com/article.cfm?ArticleID=2089 http://www.treehugger.com/files/2005/11/mosquito_magnet.php http://www.worldchanging.com/archives/003775.html I expect that you would just have to test to find out the best place to put the thing, and might find that this changes with the wind. Hope you don't mind my venturing to comment. |

I have direct personal knowledge x 2 We lived in a heavily wooded area and my neighbor bought Mosquito Magnet. Even though it was in the neighbors yard and we had a 3/4 acre lot, we noticed immediate benefits. Used to be that we were all bit up jsut mowing the lawn. After the neighbor got Mosquito Magnet the mosquitos in our yard were reduced by probably 80%. My sister has one, they are on a tranquil lake in Wisconsin. All I can say it is works. It works like a charm. |
