Hi,

Could you please tell me how to increase the value I have in cells by
25 and 30 percent. example: I entered in column D1 THROUGH D30
different prices for items i will sell. To increase value in each cell
by the same percentage I did the folowing:I entered this in cell E1,
right next to cell D1 =D1*1.25 (TO INCREASE BY 25%)and I got the
correct number. How do I do this for all of the cells without typing
the formula for each cell. So far it is taking me a day to figure it
out. I have more than 300 items to do. Please help.

Thank you.

Howdy basiakasia-ga,

Please try the following.

Select E1, go to Edit, then click on Copy.

Select the range of cells, in this case E2..E30, then click on Edit, Paste.

In F1, you can put the formula of =F1*1.30 and repeat the above steps using
F1 to copy and F2..F30 for the paste.

If the above works, please tell me and I will post it as the answer. Thanks!

Looking Forward, denco-ga - Google Answers Researcher

Hi basiakasia,

There is an easier way.

Click the cell with the formula, and then highlight the remaining
cells (I assume in a column) where you want the formula inserted. Now,
you should have a whole column highlighted, formula is in the top
cell.

GO TO EDIT.
SELECT FILL.
CHOOSE DOWN. (Assuming the formula you want to copy is in the top cell)
SELECT ENTER.

Voila!

Let me know when you are successful and I'll put this in the Answer box.

Actually I reread Denco's suggestion, and except for the EDIT - FILL
instruction that uses an actual Excel command, it will work.

Sorry Denco, I should have read your post slowly, I just looked for
"FILL" in your text and didn't see it, and posted...

Yes this is a fairly simple and common task and you should find an
explanation in the Help files for Excel.

Hover your cursor over cell E1 and single Left click in cell E1 to
select (highlight) cell E1.
Now hover your curser over the lower right corner of cell E1 where you
should find a black dot and notice that you curser changes from an
arrow to a solid black cross. (Not a white cross or an arrowed cross.)
Now left click when you see the black cross and hold and drag your
cursor down the column noticing that the squares in the column are
highlighted as you drag. Finally release the cursor.
You should now have the same formula from cell E1 in the cells you
highlighted and appropriately adjusted. eg Formula in E1=D1*1.25 & in
E2=D2*1.25 & in E3=D3*1.25, etc. You will see the results in each of
the cells, not the underlying formula, however if you choose any of
the cells and look in the formula bar "fx" at the top of the
spreadsheet you can check to see the underlying formula in that cell.

Now you have the general idea you can experiment a little.
Beware that more complex formulas can come up with somwhat different
results that you may not expect unless you comprehend the rules of
mathematics.
Try experimenting sometime by dragging across rows.

Hi

Just an addendum

If you feel that the increase (currently 25%) may change, you don't
need to start again.

Just put the 1.25 into a cell (we'll call it A1, but it can be any cell).

Then, instead of the formula =D1*1.25 you put in the formula =D1*$A$1

You can either drag down or copy and paste (whichever you prefer) and
it'll still work.

However if you want to change the percentage, just change the number
in A1 and watch all the calculations change!

Technical: What's happening is that if you drag down, or paste the
Formula in E1 of "=D1*1.25" when dragged into E2 becomes "=D2*1.25"
and in E3 becomes "=D3*1.25". i.e. it automatically refers to the
current row. By putting dollar signs into A1, "$A$1", it forces it to
always point to A1. So E1: =D1*$A$1 will become E2: =D2*$A$1 and E3:
=D3*$A$1 and so on.

Hi,

Its a very simple, let me give you simplest way to solve your problem.
Write in next cell "=D1*1.25", so in that cell, you will get the right value.
Now move your mouse on that cell's botoom right corner, you will find
dark + sign, just hold that + sign and drag upto the last cell, so you
will get the formula copied to all place where you make this drag.

Hope this will helpful to you.
