I've smoked Sampoerna Xtra's for years, but lately they can't be found
anywhere. You can still find Djarum Blacks (yuch!) and standard
Sampoerna's, but no more Xtra's. I have heard rumours that they will
stop being imported, but why only the Sampoerna Xtra's? I mean what's
the story behind the disappearing cloves?

Supposedly, clove cigarettes are even less healthy than regular ones.

I have run into the same problem. I smoke Sampoerna menthol cloves and
a few months ago I noticed that I wasn't able to find them at the
places I was usually able to. Eventually an employee at a tobacco shop
told me that Marlboro bought out Sampoerna so that they would no
longer be available in the states. In order to buy them now you'd have
to buy a carton online and pay for shipping costs. I know...it sucks.

An email from Phillip Morris:

Thank you for writing to us.

Last year Philip Morris International acquired the Sampoerna tobacco
company in Indonesia, including the brands you refer to in your email.
As there was only a limited market for Sampoerna products in the United
States, a business decision was made to cease distribution to the United
States following the acquisition.

With best wishes,
Philip Morris International

Maybe even Philip Morris doesn't want be involved in selling something
that is less healthy than its major products. LOL
But I suspect that this is a classic example of what happens when a
monopoly develops.

If you are near - Lexington, Kentucky - a store called sQecial Media
has about 5 cartons of X-tras as of 19-9-2006. They will not ship
though.
As4.com/sqecial
I think they are about $60.00 a carton
