I am looking to get a complete list of the public/private 4 year and
junior colleges, high schools and middles schools in the United
States.  We would prefer this data to be easily dumped into a DB.  CSV
format would be fine to deliver it in.  We are willing to pay for a
complete list, but at this time cannot find a resource who sells these
lists.  A website like classmates.com or reunion.com are a good
example of sites that have all the schools.

Two things:

1.  What sort of list?  Just the school name?  Or did you want
additional information?

2.  Depending on your answer to (1), I may be able to create the list
for you.  However, it would require more than $50 worth of effort. 
What sort of budget do you have for this project?

Please go to the National Center for Education Statistics website to
see if this is a suitable solution.

Search for Public Schools
http://nces.ed.gov/ccd/schoolsearch/

Search for Private Schools
http://nces.ed.gov/surveys/pss/privateschoolsearch/


After you enter your search criteria, you will be able to download an Excel file.

For example, choose:
Alabama
Regular
All

Choose your search criteria, for example, for grades 1 - 12, choose:

Includes 
Grade  12 	 	 	 	 	 	
Low Grade: 1				
High Grade: 12

Click the Search button

The returned list will include:

School Name  	
Address
Phone  	
County  	
Number of Students
Grades

After you view the list, see "Download This Data" to download an Excel file. 

If you are happy with the Excel files, I would be happy to post this
as an answer. Then you could post a new question for Pafalafa to give
him a chance to create the list of colleges for you.

What about a list of US colleges?

Hi all, thanks for the responses, sorry it has taken me so long to get
back to you.  I was expecting an email from Google when I got the
response from you.

To answer your question:  I would be willing to pay more for the list
of all k-Colleges in the public/private sector in the US.

What we would really like is either a CSV or DB file with all this
info.  We are going to need to populate it into our DB so the users
can enter it into their profile.  The one website you provided me with
was great, but it would take a lot of time to manually pull all
information from all the states.  Is there not a site where we can
just buy access to the entire list?
