Question ID: 749036
I'm looking for a place to purchase a database of US hotels
(specifically hotels as opposed to motels) with the following data
items and characteristics:

-standard format (Excel, CSV, ASCII, dBASE preferred; Access is
acceptable) with each hotel as a row and each data item as a column
-hotel name
-address
-phone number
-star rating (only need 3+ stars)
-presence of a restaurant
-presence of a conference room with capacity 1,000+

It would be helpful but not necessary to have:

-hotel website
-latitude & longitude
-geocodes

I need to make a recommendation, so I need the name and contact
information for a company that can supply this information. A price
estimate is also helpful. The end user is a single company looking to
plan and book events. This list will not be used for prospecting or
for competing with a company like Hotels.com or Expedia. I have
contacted several of these companies, and I was unable to find anyone
willing to discuss licensing their hotel lists.

Dear Gseaberg,

Would you be interested in a Hotel/Motel database in Excel format?
This database is free and it is made up of approximately 35,000 properties.

Each listing provides:
Name of property
Street Address
City
State
Zip code
Number of Stories
Phone Number

For example:

Grand Hyatt New York
Park Ave At Grand Central
New York
NY
10017
Stories: 20
Phone: (212) 883-1234

Radisson Hotel New Rochelle
One Radisson Plz
New Rochelle
NY
10801
Stories:10
Phone: 914-576-3700

Comfort Inn
551 S Transit St
Lockport
NY
14094
Stories:2
Phone: 716-434-4411

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Bobbie7

gseaberg-ga,

The database that bobbie7-ga identified (above) is a good one, and has
an added advantage of being available at no cost beyond the list price
that you have offered.

As an alternative possibility, I can provide a list of about 1,800
hotels nationwide that come pretty close to your criteria.

All hotels on the list are three star or above, have a restaurant, and
offer conference facilities. The only thing missing is that I could
not confirm the size of the conference rooms...I can't guarantee that
they are 1,000+ facilities.

The listing is not currently in spreadsheet format. The listings look like this:

==========

PEPPERMILL RENO HOTEL CASINO, RENO, NEVADA
*****
2707 S Virginia St, RENO, NEVADA 89502 U.S.A.
Tel:+1 775-826-2121
Fax:+1 775-689-7348

AIRPORT LAKES HOLIDAY INN, MIAMI INT`L AIRPORT, FLORIDA
***
1101 NORTH-WEST 57TH AVENUE, MIAMI INT`L AIRPORT, FLORIDA 33126 U.S.A.
Tel:+1 305-266-0000
Fax:+1 305-266-9179

ALADDIN RESORT AND CASINO, LAS VEGAS, NEVADA
****
3667 LAS VEGAS BOULEVARD SOUTH, LAS VEGAS, NEVADA 89109
Tel:+1 702-785-5555

==========

I can offer this list of 1,800+ hotels -- as-is -- for the list price
of this question.

If you need it cleaned-up in spreadsheet format, however, I would have
to ask you to raise the price of the question to $200, as it is a
labor-intensive process to get it into shape.

Let me know what you think.

I'm looking for a list that both has fairly complete coverage of US
hotels and specifies the star level, restaurant, and conference
facility status. Neither a large database that fails to specify nor a
small database that does specify but only contains a fraction of the
qualifying hotels will suffice, unfortunately.

gseaberg-ga,

How many hotels would you suppose meet your criteria?

I have no real way of gauging whether the 1,800 hotels I have a
listing for is a fairly complete list or not.

But it is certainly clear that the majority of hotels in the US don't
meet your criteria, so I would not expect the final list to be huge.

Do you have any insights as far as the size of the list you are asking for?
