Hello, runnfst,
I have summarized my research below:
Calculating a rate of calories burned per pound of body weight for
each of the plurality of running tests using a formula as follows:
Rate per Pound (Cal/lb-min)=A+BV+CV.sup.2 +KDV.sup.3 where:
V=Running Speed (mph)--limited to a minimum of 3 mph and a maximum of 14 mph
A=0.0395
B=0.00327
C=0.000455
D=[0.00801(W/154).sup.0.425 ]/W
W=Weight (lbs)
K=0 or 1 (0=Treadmill; 1=Outdoors)
and where A, B, C and D are known predetermined constants based on a
statistical sample of 2463 adults who run normally between 3 mph to 14
mph.
This is a United States Patent (6013009)- Walking/running heart rate
monitoring system. And there are also a formula that will calculate
calories burned while walking.

A running calories calculator which depends on variable weights and
running miles is found. And you can check up running calories
calculated by other formulae, however this is not a formula.

More on this question:
The approximate number of calories you expend by running a certain
distance can be found by taking 0.73 times your body weight in pounds
times the number of miles run. There are also formulae for swimming
and bicycling.

A runner friend of mine told me that you can calculate (very roughly)
the calories burned during a run by multiplying one?s weight in
Kilograms by the distance in Kilometers.
