Question ID: 762475
I am looking for market research, backed up by some sort of evidence.

The questions I would like answered are:

(1) How many bars and restaurants are there in the United States?
(2) How many sports bars/restaurants are there?
(3) How many of those sports bars are chains/franchises?

I would prefer to get links/evidence to the answers.

ffynon-ga,

Question #1 is readily answerable.

#2 is tough...the phone book lists a few thousand sports bars
nationwide, but other sources indicate there are many more than this.
It's hard to come up with realistic numbers though.

As for #3...I haven't a clue, nor do I think there is a source for
such information.

Given the limited information available on your topic, how would you
suggest we proceed on your question?

I would prefer some evidence on #2... finding some source that might
look into it. One possible proxiy if you could find it is the number
of bars that subscribe to sports programming via DirecTV, like the NFL
package. #3, I can live with out, but #2 is important.

<Question 1 - easily answered.

Question 2 - I have figures for the number of sports bars with HDTV
installed and also the number of sports bars and restaurants with
satellite dishes.

I also have a sports bar revenue figure for 2004 and the annual growth rate.

Question 3 - I have figures giving the number of outlets for the major
players in the sports bar segment.
There are also general figures for the number of multi-unit bars.

Would any of this information be of use.

Best wishes

Belindalevez-ga.>

"The primary difference between [ESPN] Zone and Fox Sports Grill is
the focus on the local market," Freeman said. "We believe that sports
are viewed in a local market, and the affinity of fans is pretty much
local. We are catering to the local market, as compared to Zone, which
is really more focused on the tourist market."

This article explains how Fox Sports Grill aims to compete in the
sports bar sector. Bill Freeman distinguished their brand from other
contenders, stating that "we are creating a new category of
sports-restaurant-bar by having a high-energy destination restaurant
and a technology-driven sports bar." The executive also noted that his
concept is situated to appeal to a local market, rather than what he
described as the "tourist-driven product" at ESPN Zone. (Instant
