I've been offered two positions recently and am baffled as what to do.
I'm a intern for the BLM in Arizona and have been offered a
Restoration Ecologist position at Saguaro National Park which lasts 6
months. It is a government position which lists as a GS 7. Or a
Fisheries technician job in Central/eastern(east of San Fran)
califoria for SAIC contractors. They both pay the same and I am
slightly more interested in the fisheries position though I am young
in my career. Which position would be better for me as far as career
in biological sciences? The twist is I want to get back up to the
Northwest eventually and don't want to be completely tied to the
desert forever.

Hello juice1313-ga,

Congratulations on getting two job offers! You?re faced with a happy
quandary on how to decide which one to choose.

You are the only one who can make the ultimate decision but there are
a lot of tools and resources available on the Web that will help you
sort out your thoughts. I?ve collected a variety of articles that
provide you with guidelines for developing your personal criteria for
comparing the two jobs. Some of them include worksheets to help you do
a direct comparison of specific factors that are important to you
while others offer discussions on how to compare your values,
interests and goals with what each job offers. These tools tend to
offer very similar information. Choose the article or worksheet that
seems most relevant to you.

Wishing you well for your new job and future career.

Evaluating a Job Offer

There are many issues to consider when assessing a job offer. Will the
organization be a good place to work? Will the job be interesting? Are
there opportunities for advancement? Is the salary fair? Does the
employer offer good benefits? If you have not already figured out
exactly what you want, the following discussion may help you to
develop a set of criteria for judging job offers, whether you are
starting a career, reentering the labor force after a long absence, or
planning a career change.

Toss a coin.

If you don't like the result then turn the coin over.

My job involves a lot of counselling and I never tell my clients what
they should do. I simply give them the right tools with which they can
make their own choices.

I agree with the coin comment. I've often told the same thing to
people. When you see a "final" decision, such as "heads", and what you
really wanted deep-down was "tails", then you'll know which one is
best for you. I doubt that you are truly 100% ambivalent/unsure about
which one to pick, but sometimes the coin-toss is a nice prod in the
right direction (yes, prod, as in cattle-prod ;) )
