I'm searching for a "post-it" software that allows to create post-it
like notes that can be attached to particular windows or applications.
When the window appears the note appears, when the windows disappears
the note disappears...

I found that StickyNote 9.0, Quick Notes Plus, Ptimemo, Mystickies and
the next version of Stickies (6.0) should have this feature but
actually this feature is implemented very primitively in these
programs.
For example, if I use Internet Explorer with multi-tab they don't
distinguish one tab from another: they only look at the title of a
window (Internet Explorer...) ignoring its content.

Is there a better program with this feature?

lucavilla...

See what you think of EverNote. There's a free download available:

Let me know what you think...

At first sight it seems interesting! I didn't know it.
I'm downloading it. I'll tell you tomorrow when I'll try it better.
Thanks!

Hi lucavilla,

Here's another possibility:

NotesPlusPlus is electronic notes organizer software that allows you
to stick notes to any files, program and windows you want..."

Another one you may want to try:

Secure Reminder
http://www.securereminder.com/

Associate (stick) reminders with files, programs and windows
Using this feature you can associate notes with any
files/programs/windows you want. The note appears on the desktop any
time you open the file/program or window the note is stuck to; if you
close the file/window/program, the note disappears. The note is hidden
if the program, file or windows it is stuck to is closed. That way
important ideas or thoughts will never be lost.

Sublime1, I tried EverNote. The program itself it's very nice, it has
an excellent design, but unfortunately I didn't find in it the feature
to attach notes to windows/applications. See here
http://www.evernote.com/en/products/evernote/features.php and here
http://www.evernote.com/en/products/evernote/new-features.php.

Hummer and rainbow, I tried NotesPlusPlus and Secure Reminder and they
seems the same identic program with just different name, icon and
colors :) Anyway the feature is implemented very primitively in these
programs too: for example, if I use Internet Explorer with multi-tab
they don't distinguish one tab from another: they only look at the
title of a window (Internet Explorer...) ignoring its content. And if
the title changes slightly the note remains hidden.
You can't even change the associated title cause you can only select
it between a list (of the open windows titles).

I would a program that let me control the title and contents of the
window associated to the note possibly with jolly characters ("*","?")
or even better "regular expressions"...

Hi lucavilla,

Posticky
"leave stickies on websites as reminders and annotations"
http://www.posticky.com/index.php

If you ever feel like trying Firefox, there's this (free extension):

Internote
"Persistent sticky notes for Firefox. Internote allows you to create
notes on a web page which will be there once you return. Notes are
very customizable, and come with many small, useful features. A
manager is available, in which you can see all of your saved notes,
edit them, print them, and delete them."
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2011/

Firefox has some great Tab extensions too.

Hi Hummer,
Postiky looks similar to MyStickies (http://www.mystickies.com).
Unfortunately they both allow notes to be attached to web sites only,
not to any kind of window. :(
Internote too...

Lucavilla, maybe an easier solution would be to have two programs? One
for the web and one for other stuff (rather than trying to find the
'perfect' sticky)? hummer

Hi lucavilla,

This looks hopeful!

Stickies v5.2b
"Once on screen, stickies will remain where placed until closed, even
through reboots"

Hummer,
It would be suboptimal.. I would lose the ability to search (globally)
for a note and it would not solve the other problems due to
imprecision/unflexibility:
"if the title changes slightly the note remains hidden.
You can't even change the associated title cause you can only select
it between a list (of the open windows titles).
It would be better a program that let me control the title and contents of the
window associated to the note possibly with jolly characters ("*","?")
or even better "regular expressions"..."

Hummer,
I mentioned Stickies (6.0) in my first message because he will have
the feature to attach notes to specific windows from the next version,
the 6.0.
The 5.2 seems not to have the feature to attach notes to specific windows :(

Hi lucavilla,

Oh, I'm sorry, I had forgotten that you had already mentioned
Stickies. But in regards to attaching it to a window, the v5.2b says,
"Once on screen, stickies will remain where placed until closed, even
through reboots". Doesn't that mean the sticky is attached to a window
until the sticky itself is closed? That's what I thought, anyway.

I think that it means that the sticky remain attached to Windows, not
to a window :)
in other words it would always remain on the screen (until closed) no
matter what window/application are you using...

Hi lucavilla,

I found it!

Quick Notes Plus (free to try, $19.95 to buy)
"Quick Notes Plus (QNP) allows you to stick notes to different
applications. What this means is, when ever you open that application
(document, website or any other window), the related sticky notes will
show up..."
http://www.conceptworld.com/QNP/Sticking_A_Sticky_Note.asp

QNP
- Add intelligence to note-taking. Stick notes to web pages (or
documents). Let them pop up automatically when you open those web
pages.
Sort Notes
Notes can be sorted based on title, date created or date modified.
Find Notes
The find features allows you to quickly locate a note by content or title.
http://www.conceptworld.com/QNP/default.asp#Features

Note-Taking, Attach Digital Sticky Notes As Comments To Your Applications
"Has anyone ever heard of a note taking app that is smart enough to
attach notes to a specific window, like a particular website or PC
application? I'd like to be able to quickly paste some instructions to
that note, retaining the original layout with bullets, italics etc.
The note should stay on top while I carry out the instructions".
Context Sensitive Notes
"Quick Notes Plus notes can easily be attached to a specific window.
This means you can set the properties of that note so that it appears
only when that window has focus. Clearly the idea behind this
courteous option is to help you organize and categorize your sticky
notes according to the application to which the note refers. Stick
notes to documents, e-mail messages, web pages or any application
window."

Sadly, this will definitely be my last GA answer. I'm really happy
that it is yours because I've noticed your question over the past few
weeks and wondered why a suitable program was so hard to find, surely
it must be out there somewhere. I decided to take one last look while
our turkey was in the oven and lo and behold, there it was.

Merry Christmas!
