I need a source for a quote. I think it is by Arthur Ashe, and I
think it was plastered on the sides of some New York City buses or
cabs several years back. If not Ashe, then who? This is the version
I have: "Start now / Where you are / With what you have."

Dear dwc-ga
I think the quote you are seeking is:
"To achieve greatness: start where you are, use what you have, do what
you can." Arthur Ashe

Quoted on http://deathandtaxes.com/quotations.htm under a page titled
"Planned Giving and Charity Quotes"
Also quoted on:
http://www.uscg.mil/reserve/magazine/mag2001/JunJul01/view.htm
http://www.virginiawomen.org/programs_collaboration_summits_summit97.html
and 20 others sites using the links shown under search strategy.

A similar quote is "Do what you can, with what you have, where you
are".
-- Theodore Roosevelt

Before grading the answer please ask for clarification of any part of
this research if it is not clear, or if the links to do not work.

I still need a source for the quote -- where did Ashe write it or say
it?

Also, I'm curious -- how did you find the quote on the web? It wasn't
in the first strategy you used and "to achieve greatness" was not in
the quote I had.

Thanks.

Dear dwc
Sorry about the delay in replying. A family problem arose.

The first link was slightly incorrect, I apologize about that. It
brought you to page 3 of the search instead of page 1 which is where
the first result was found.

This then took me onto the second search term.

As to the quotation source, websites vary from ‘said’ to ‘wrote’. On
http://www.thekraftlawfirm.com/1.doc
It states “In his dying days, the tennis great, Arthur Ashe, wrote”.
However, I have been unable to find the quotation source. (This
included a media search via LexisNexis) It is possible it is contained
in the books that Ashe either wrote or were written of him.
