Hello,

Since the sales of 2002 are incomplete, are you looking for the total
sales for 2001?

In addition, when you say prices, do you mean the total sales amount
or the average price of these games?

Thanks for the clarification-

SgtCory

Hello delvar,

You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader to read the resources I have
found for you. You can download it here:

Adobe Acrobat:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

According to the InterActive Digital Software Association, here are
the statistics that you are looking for:

2001
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Total PC games sold : 83.6 million units
Total Amount Spent : $1.75 billion

Total RPGs sold : 7.4 million
Total Amount RPG : 155 million

I used the percentages in the reference I have listed for you to
figure out the rough amount of sales in dollar amounts for the Role
Playing Games. There are also statistics on numerous other facets of
the industry from a range of years. Here is a small sample of what you
will see:

- RPG's were the 5th best selling Genre of games with 8.8% of all PC
game sales
- Computer games industry growth was double that of our economy at
14.9%
- Women purchased more PC games than men. 55 to 45% respectively.

There is also yearly comparison statistics sine 1996. They did not
break down RPG's specifically, but I thought you might find this
interesting. This data has been interpolated from the IDSA booklet on
the gaming industry:

IDSA gaming industry statistics
http://www.idsa.com/IDSABooklet.pdf

To find this answer I searched for:

pc games sold worldwide
://www.google.com/search?q=pc+games+sold+worldwide

I also used the IDSA as a resource, as I have seen the sites free
statistics in the past. You can see the IDSA site here:

http://www.idsa.com/

I hope this answers your question to your satisfaction. Should you
need clarification, please ask before rating this answer, as I would
love to offer more assistance.

Thanks for the question!

"Total Amount RPG : 155 million"

This should have been a dollar figure. The total amount spent on RPG's
is rounded up to $155 million.

Sorry about the typo -

Thanks again

Grisha,

Sounds good - give me about 15 to 20 minutes to see what else I can
find. Be right back :-)

I came up with a little something for 2000 :

Title Units
----------------------------------------------------------------
Baldur's Gate (all formats) 500,000
BG expansion pack 156,000
Fallout 144,000
Fallout 2 123,000
Diablo 1,300,000
Revenant 37,000
Darkstone 75,000
Ultima IX: Ascension 73,000
Planescape: Torment 73,000

That's about all the free information I could find. Here is the site
to watch, as they are one of the top industry trackers:

http://www.npdtechworld.com/techServlet?nextpage=trend_index.html

Sometimes they release free information. If you are willing to pay
them, they offer access to very detailed reports that are not
available over the net.

Hope this helps a little more - and don't hesitate to ask for further
clarification if you need it. I'd be glad to help!
