There are a number of commercial services on the internet that can
provide the tax ID number of a business as long as you know the name
and address of the business. The fee is relatively modest -- usually
$5 - 10 per lookup.

Is this the type of service you're interested in? If so, I can post
links to several such services as an answer to your question.

Thanks for clarifying your question, steph1000-ga.

Have a look at the KnowX site, a well-respected information service.
Their federal employer identification number (tax ID) lookup page is
here:

http://www.knowx.com/servlet/com.kx.knowx.fein.Servlet?action=search&name

Enter the company name and state, and KnowX will let you know if they
have a record on file for this company. If available, there is a fee
of $4.95 for accessing the record, which will look more or less like
this:

Name: ACME INC
Address: SOMEWHERE USA 12345
Phone Number: (123)-456-7890
Tax ID (FEIN): 123456789
Executive Name & Title: Someone - CEO
SIC Code: 12345678

==========

Abika also offers a similar service at $29.98:

==========

Another such service (considerably more expensive!) is assetsearches.com at:

http://www.assetsearches.com/tax_id_search/index.html

I hope these services meet your needs. If anything here is not clear,
or if you need additional information, please let me know by posting a

Tony22-ga,

I wish I could report to you that there is a free service for the tax
ID lookups, but as far as I know there is not.

Several similar questions have been asked at GA in the past, and they
all have come to the same conclusion -- this type of information is
only available through commercial services for a fee.

You may want to have a look at the most recent question along these lines:

http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=295663

particularly the comment at the bottom of the question, which affirms
that the IRS does not make tax ID information available.

Best of luck to you in the new year.

P.S. My apologies for addressing you by the wrong name in my original answer!

Speaking of which, those appeared in the sponsored links area.

I don't think so, steph. The sponsored links (at least the ones that
I'm seeing) are for companies that don't yet have a tax ID number and
that want to apply to get one. They're not services to find out a
company's tax ID.
