Where can I find old news reel footage from WWII? My Grandfather is in one and I want to locate that footage. The reel was about wooden toys my grandfather made when he lived in Houston, Texas near Westhimer. The footage was shot between 1943, and 1945, and my grandfather's full name was Joseph Dixon Edwards. |

There are several newsreel databases available online: http://www.bufvc.ac.uk/databases/newsreels/resources/databases.html This is probably not the newsreel you are looking for: http://comet.csd.sc.edu:8080/webpac1.2.4-bin/wgbroker?040714123362418+1+search+select++5+1 It may be helpful to mention your previous question: http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=258610 |

Sorry about the second link in my previous comment. Using "wooden toys" as a search term http://www.sc.edu/newsfilm/ will display 2 results, the second one being: "Wooden Toys for War Time Christmas" (Massachusetts and Illinois, 1942). |

Well, I suppose that you will not find your grandfather by entering "Edwards" as a search term. Even if his name is mentioned in the newsreel he probably will not be mentioned in a summary or description of the footage. You may have to proceed with your search using some other terms. |

I tried Edwards, wooden toy, toy Houston, and 1943, 1944, 1945. Not sure what else to try right now, but I'll keep on pluging. If you think of anthing else, I've been trying to find something out for a few years, and this is the first time I at least got pointed to some searchable indexes on the internet. It gives me hope anyway. Thanks for that!!! |
