Here are three related questions about blogging which seem extremely
basic, to me, yet I can't seem to get answers. I'm not trying to get
3-for-the-price-of-1 here. My 3 boil down to this: How does blogging
work, in simple terms, and I can't imagine asking one without the
other two. I've looked through the internet, and I've looked through a
couple of books, and--amazingly enough--I haven't yet found answers to
these elemental questions. I've even tried here at Google twice before
and gotten no real response. Help! I'm putting a reasonable price on
this, and I think that someone who knows the answers can provide them
in about 3 minutes.
1. I understand the relationship between a website and a host. I
create a website, on my home computer, then I upload it to a hosting
service. (The same company might sell the website-creating software,
of course.) Is THIS the way blogging works? Do I have to "create" a
unique blog (like a unique website) and then have it "hosted"? Or is
it simpler? (I assume it is)
2. Changing host. After blogging at one site, if I want to change to
another, what happens to earlier posted and archived blog texts? Do I
somehow ?take? them with me to a new site? (How?)
3. Searching by topic: I might write on several topics on a given day.
Do some ?blogsites? provide a ?search previous blogs by topic?
feature, or can you only search by date? ( Do some also offer a
complete text-search?) |

Thanks to tlspeigel, and an apology for the delayed reply.
I did find your suggested link helpful, of course--mostly in relation
to question 1. However, I didn't see answers to the related questions
2 and 3--can you later change host? and can you search by topic? I
realize those might be answered somewhere among the links that you
suggested, but the whole point of my coming here is to have the sort
of overview that answers all these together, since they are related.
That is, if I create my "own" blog and just get someone else to host
it--which relates to my question #1, then I presumably CAN retain
access to all my data, once posted (question #2)...but I don't think I
can just assume that. Moreover, the two questions clearly are
inter-connected, which is why I need someone who understands the
overview to answer these questions together.
Similary, maybe ONLY by creating my "own" blog (question #1) can I
make its content searchable in the ways I'd like (question #3). That
is, maybe by going to an off-the-rack blog spot I can't get the
searching, flexibly. (Or maybe some of such spots are much better than
others, along those lines.)
It's not as though I need to know a whole string of issues--just the 3
I mentioned, which do seem connected, and which I'm hoping to get a
brief overview of. I wouldn't think that would be more than a few
paragraphs, and I'm still hoping to see that.
Thanks...
