I am trying to save images on the web that are .jpg images, but my
computer randomly will decide to save it as an 'untitled' bmp and not
give me an option to change that. I've tried clearing my Temp files,
deleting cookies, and nothing seems to change this. What's odd is
that it's only on certain websites, like if I go to certain websites,
it'll happen, but if I go to eBay.com or any random websites I can
save any image from there as a .jpg. I use Internet Explorer and
Windows XP. I'm confident anyone else can save as a .jpg as it's
properties allways show as .jpg on these sites. An example is if I go
to www.yahoo.com and search for any name (an example is Tommy The
Who), then click the IMAGES, open up one of the links and then go to
view full size, when it opens the image, i go to save the .jpg and it
saves as a Bitmap.

Endo, your solution seemed my answer but I followed it explicitly and
unfortunately it did not work. Also, I realize I can convert them to
.jpg, but I'm working with 100s of these, and it's just so many steps,
is there a way to batch these all at once?

Try creating a new folder and saving the .jpg's to it.
Worked for me.

Hello
Ok. First download all the photos. Now copy all .BMP images to a
folder. No wgo to MS DOs mode and get it into that folder, and
type: ren *.BMP *.jpg Press Enter Key.
Now see all your .BMP files converted in to .Jpg Files..
Bye

I had this problem back when I used AOL. Never did find fix, but it
disappeared after I stopped using it.

Couple of options...
You can batch conversion process in Fireworks.

Also Snag-it by techsmith.com always captures of any size or format.

Screw Internet Explorer. That brower is a piece of crap. Use Mozilla
Firefox, and you'll be cool. Plus, it doesn't have any of IE's
security and privacy issues. Go to www.mozilla.com to download it.
It's free.
