In the 1960s, I had the pleasure of attending a concert by the great Pete Seeger. When he sang "This Land Is Your Land," he included all the verses (unlike Peter, Paul, and Mary, who'd had a radio hit with an expurgated version). Some of Woody Guthrie's words made the audience gasp in astonishment. Here you'll find the complete lyrics. The final three verses, as you can see, are not all sweetness and light, but are a hard-hitting political statement: Woody Guthrie: This Land Is Your Land http://www.woodyguthrie.org/Lyrics/This_Land.htm It's odd how the memory works. In order to find the unedited lyrics, I reached back into my mind some forty years, and this portion of the song came to me, loud and clear, giving me a keyphrase to use in my Google Search: As I went walking I saw a sign there And on the sign it said "No Trespassing." But on the other side it didn't say nothing, That side was made for you and me. My Google search strategy: Google Web Search: "this land is your land" "but on the other side it didn't say nothing" ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22this+land+is+your+land%22+%22but+on+the+other+side+it+didn%27t+say+nothing%22 I hope this is precisely what you need. If anything is unclear or incomplete, please request clarification; I'll gladly offer further assistance before you rate my answer. Best regards, pinkfreud | |

Pink, How did you manage to reach back into your mind some 40 years ago with such clarity? Especially as you must have been only about 2 years old at the time of course to remember such a rendition? Phil |

Phil, Since I'm only 29 now, I was minus 11 forty years ago. Obviously I was reaching back into someone else's mind, possibly my mother's. Or maybe I was remembering a past life in which I was a folkie who hung around Pete Seeger concerts memorizing things. Then again, it could be that I'm a lot older than I let on. ;-) ~Pink |

Personally I believe that Pink is really 29 and that in: http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=476274 she was answering some different question ;) (What?s the fun in life if you can?t make a bit of mischief sometimes?) Norman. |

FYI. For those interested in Woodie Guthrie music, Woodie?s daughter Norah, was left hundreds and hundreds of previously unknown lyrics after her father?s death. These were catalogued and two CD?s worth set to music and released by Billy Brag in 1995 entitled: Mermaid Avenue Vol. 1 Mermaid Avenue Vol. 2 Norman |
