Hi mastrangelo,

No, I don't live near Chesapeake now, but I lived on the beach as a
child - catching crabs with a chicken neck! I'm guessing you are in
the UK and/or of Italian heritage?

Yes, I need to know one more thing... is the MP3 is already on
your computer? Is it on a CD? Is it on a website?

I'll look forward to your response!

    Regards, Crabcakes

Hello Crabcakes,

Yes my family is Italian, and I am from NYC (born in Brooklyn, grew up
in Manhatten), but now I am living in Sydney.....long story.

The music could be from all sources, cd & mp3. Using a cd I can play
it on a variety of disc devices installed on my computer...I also
download music regularly (paid downloads or on subscription)......

Does this help?

Cheers
M

some day I'd like to know how you catch crabs with a chicken neck. very strange...

Since you're in Syndey, we have a huge time difference, as I am in the western US!

It is fast approaching 2am, and I must get to sleep. I shall post your
answer in the morning! Thanks for being patient!

To catch crabs, tie a heavy string to a chicken neck and toss it out
into the water, off a pier is best. A nice inlet is good too. When you
feel the crabs tugging (which won't be long), use a large net to catch
them as you pull the chicken neck on the string out of the water! Boil
in a huge pot of steaming water, one can of beer and a handful of Old
Bay seasoning. Mmm Mmm Mmmm! I'll try to find an article for you, and
include it in your answer!

Ta ta, Crabcakes

Hello mastrangelo,

Thank you for your patience!

Sending MP3 attachments is actually quite easy, as you?ll soon see.
You attach the file just as you would a photo file or a document file.
Sending MP3s is faster, and takes less space on your PC, as the files
are smaller than most other music formats. Some e-mail systems have
limits of file size, so you may not be able to send very large files
or several at one time. Other music formats may well be too large to
send via e-mail. If the recipient is using dial-up it will take them a
long time to receive the file. You?ll also have to wait while Yahoo
scans your music file for viruses (This is a good thing, but can be
time consuming, depending on the file.)

You might consider using a file compression program to lighten the
e-mail! Your friend may need a copy her/himself to unzip the file.

This page from CNET/Downloads has a list of file compression programs
http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?qt=file+compression&tg=dl-2001&search.x=0&search.y=0&search=+Go%21+

Notice that Zip Genius is free
http://www.download.com/ZipGenius/3000-2250_4-10264281.html?tag=lst-0-2

Winzip has been a faithful compression program, around for years. You
can download a free trial version here:
http://www.download.com/3000-2250-10003164.html

Microsoft offers Sonic, a program that works as a CD ripper with
Windows Media Player. See all MS has to offer on this page!

If your music files are already on you PC, in MP3 format, you are set
to send an e-mail now!

To Attach a File (Music, photo, etc.) in Yahoo Mail:
=====================================
To send an attachment with an email in Yahoo! Mail.
·While composing a message, follow the Attach Files link.
·Select Browse to select the file you want to attach on your computer.
(Select the MP3 file you want, and click ?Open? in that dialogue box.)
·Click Attach Files.
Yahoo! Mail now grabs the file from your computer and attaches it to
the message you are currently composing. Additionally, every file you
attach is scanned for known viruses automatically.
To add more files, select Attach More Files.
Eventually, select Done to close the attachments window and return to
the message composition page.
http://email.about.com/cs/yahoomailtips/qt/et101801.htm

If you have any trouble with the above steps, Yahoo has this more
detailed set of directions:
If you are having difficulty making an attachment from your Yahoo!
Mail account, it is possible that you may be clicking the "Done"
button too soon. To make an attachment, please follow these steps:
1.Click on "Attach Files."
2.Click the "Browse" button.
3.This will open a window that will allow you to search for the file
you wish to attach. Once you find it, click on "Open."
4.Once your file is listed next to the "Browse" button, click "Attach
Files," located toward the bottom of the page. The file name(s) will
be added to the Attached Files table. Please note: If you click "Done"
before you see the file name in the Attached Files table, your file
will not be attached.
5.When you see the file name in the Attached Files table, click the "Done" button.
6.If you are attempting to attach a file to an email message and
receive an error message that states either "there was a problem
uploading your documents" or "your system made a request that the
browser could not understand," it is most likely the file you're
trying to attach is open and you will need to save then close this
file before it will attach.

If your browser is hanging or the file does not appear to be attaching
after a number of minutes, one or all of the following may be the
cause:
·Slow connection speeds or browser issues - In this case, we recommend
that you try using a different browser (if you are using IE, try
switching to Netscape, or vice versa), and try uploading your files at
less busy times of the day.
The Netscape browser can be found at:
http://home.netscape.com/download/

The Internet Explorer browser can be found at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/download/
·File size -- Larger files may take longer to upload. If you have the
need to send messages larger than 10MB in size, check out Yahoo! Mail
Plus.
·File is currently open -- If the file you are attempting to upload is
open on your system, you may experience trouble. We recommend closing
the file and then going through the upload process again.
·Other programs running -- If you have a bunch of other programs
currently running, your available memory may be compensated and slow
the upload process down. We recommend closing any programs not in use
and going through the upload process again.

for attaching files in Yahoo Mail

An alternative to sharing files by e-mail is Yahoo Briefcase or a
free web space provider. You upload your files to Yahoo Briefcase or
your web space, and your friends can download them by sharing the
password, or leaving it set as ?Public? so anyone can have access (Not
a good idea). Some sites may allow each user to have their own
password. Since you already have a Yahoo logon and password, you have
part of the work done in setting up Briefcase!

Ripping CDs ? Converting CD music files (CDA) to MP3 files
------------------------------------------------------------
If the file you wish to send is on a CD, you will first need a
ripping program, and for ease, one that grabs the CD audio and
converts it to an MP3 file all at once. MP3 files are MUCH smaller.

?An MP3 ripper is a software program that takes audio from a CD,
extracts it, and converts it to MP3 all in one process. These are also
commonly known as ripper and encoder combos. CD rippers, digital audio
extractors (DAE), and cd grabbers are essentially the same thing. They
all take audio from CD but may or may not convert it to MP3.
How do MP3 rippers work?

There are two ways that rippers get audio from CD; digital extraction
and analog extraction. Digital extraction is the most accurate method
as it seeks to take the exact data on a CD and copy it to your hard
drive before encoding to MP3. There are routines that developers can
add to check and double check the accuracy of the rip. Analog
extraction records the audio as it is played through the computer's
sound card. Accuracy is dependant on the quality of the sound card and
if the CD-ROM reads the audio correctly in light of dust, scratches,
and other defects. This is the least accurate of the two methods but
is one way to copy audio from newer CDs that are copy protected.?
This site also has a collection of ripping resources near the bottom of the page.

Ooops, I forgot the crab-catching article!

Here's one that sounds even better than MY old method:
http://www.ehow.com/how_4071_catch-crabs-using.html

"But for many Chesapeake residents, crabbing is a rite of summer. The
bottom of the trap is baited with a chicken neck to lure in these
tasty crustaceans."

Funny, crabs sure don't TASTE like chicken!

Hello Crabcakes,

Well, say Halleluiah, and praise be to the Internet........

Everything worked, as a Yahoo attachment, and as a WinZip file. You
were right in warning that the Symantec Scan would be lengthy....but
it is a necessity. Thank you for reminding me also that the easiest
way to check that the process worked was to send a song to me....I am
rather dull when it comes to the glaringly oblivious......
I'll try sending a track from a CD later, but I expect I will be able
to do it now that I see how the procedure works.......

If you are wondering what the first track I sent was: this is it:
Besame Mucho, sung by Cesaria Evora...pure grace, longing, sex and
magic all in one song and by a great Lady.

Thank you so much. I am very happy that this opportunity is now available to me.
I'll never look at a crustacean without thinking of this pleasant and
enjoyable exchange.

[It?s not Washington State is it? (i.e.) "West Coast"]

Cheers
M

Mastrangelo--- I am overwhelemd by your kind words and generosity! Of
course the 5 stars are very much appreciated too! You certainly are a
delightful customer. :-)

As a child, my parents and I moved to Spain. My mother sang, off key,
I must note, 'Besame Mucho' for weeks as we packed! It's still one of
my favorites!

Enjoy sharing your music!

Many thanks! Sincerely, Crabcakes

PS. No, I live in Arizona, not Washington State. I bake in the summer
and rarely use an umbrella!

The lenghy and detailed answer was simple to follow and offered
various options to attempt the "solution" in a variety of other
equally clear & simple ways. Many useful links, both for my current
question and for future reference.
I want to especially note that the researcher made the entire
"question, clarification, answer" process remarkably friendly, kind
and intuitive. Take these qualities plus the concise and erudite
solution to my question, and I could not think of a better way to find
an answer to any question.

Thank You Google Answers and Thank You Crabcakes!
