Which aquariums in the world have over 1 million visitors and which
ones have over 1 million members and which one has the largest single tank?

Clarification of Question by curious360-ga on 09 May 2004 18:30 PDT
I've already found the largest tank so no need to answer that. It
would still be great to know which aquariums in the world have over
one million visitors and the top ten in terms of membership.

Thanks so much.

Hello again curious360,

Here is the information I found regarding aquarium visitors and aquarium tanks..

Chicago's Shedd Aquarium

?Like theme parks and museums, aquariums use new exhibits to entice
guests to return. Chicago's Shedd Aquarium, which is nearly 70 years
old, still averages two million visitors a year, with 40 percent
coming directly from the Chicago area.?

The National Aquarium in Baltimore

?The facility is Maryland's largest paid tourist attraction, drawing
an annual average of 1.6 million visitors, according to the National
Aquarium. It is touted as one of the big fish tanks that signaled a

"Sharks: Myth and Mystery" and a new entry gallery interpreting
historic Cannery Row. This museum draws about 1.8 million visitors
annually, making it one of the nation's most popular.?

The Seattle Aquarium

The Seattle Aquarium is changing. There is a new understanding of its
mission as the largest "retail" point of education about our marine
environment. No other institution offers the opportunity to bring a
hands-on message of environmental protection to half a million
visitors each year (over a million visitors once we build the new
aquarium).

?The Living Seas at Epcot contains the world?s sixth-largest ocean and

environment is 203 feet in diameter and 27 feet deep, holding 5.6
million gallons of sea water plus another million gallons in its
backup system.?

The Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is second largest in the world.

?The main feature of the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, known as "The
Journey to the Kuroshio Current", takes up most of the second and
first floors. Here sits the worlds second largest aquarium, the
largest in all of Japan, in all of its grandeur and glory. Though only
the second largest in the world, this aquarium has two groundbreaking
accomplishments which have never been achieved before now. For the
first time in the world, this tank holds more than one whale shark. In
fact, this tank holds three! The aquarium holds about 7,500 tons of
water and is 10 meters deep! About 130 tons of glass was used to form
this tank. Each wall is 60cm thick, 22.5 meters wide, and 8.2 meters
high. It is the first tank with an adequate depth for the public to
watch the true feeding habits of the giant whale sharks.?
