Hi bobbie7-ga,

1.Please select 6 different Famous/Interesting UFO sightings. Perhaps
the first could include the early history of UFO sightings.

2. Please type out 60-90 word summaries on each of the six UFO
sightings clearly and grammatically, stating
sources (websites, books etc). Please keep in mind that I will be
getting an artist to do impressions of each of the summaries.

3. Please locate the web pages of pictures that could be of use to my

Hello Leon,

Below you will find the completed research project regarding UFOs.

UFO History - 94 words

A UFO or Unidentified flying object is any airborne object whose
nature is not readily known but is considered to have extraterrestrial
origins. Idaho pilot Kenneth Arnold initiated the modern era of UFO
sightings on June 24, 1947 when he witnessed nine disk-shaped objects
while flying near Mount Rainier, Washington. Throughout history there
are references to UFOs. Alexander the Great had two UFO encounters. A
coin minted in France (1680) shows a round hovering UFO with lights
around the outer rim and in Europe there are frescos with images of
space ships in the skies.

Sources of Information:

UFO: ?unidentified flying object, UFO, flying saucer -- (an
(apparently) flying object whose nature is unknown; especially those
considered to have extraterrestrial origins)? WordNet:

?Since man first started looking up into the skies he saw things he
couldn't explain. For the last fifty years or so these things have
taken on the label "UFOs." Originally an abbreviation for the Air
Force term "Unidentified Flying Object", it has become a synonym to
most people for "Alien Spaceship."
?The modern history of UFOs, though, perhaps begins in 1947 with an
Idaho businessman and pilot named Kenneth Arnold.?

Three Kinds of Encounters

?The Center for UFO Studies also categorizes contacts with UFO's based
on the amount of interaction with the witnesses as "Close Encounters"
of the first, second, or third kind. Encounters of the first kind are
usually reports of objects in the sky or unexplained lights. The
famous Hudson Valley UFO sightings fall into this catogory. Encounters
of the second kind are marked by the UFO having some kind of tangible
effect on the Earth environment, such as burn marks or radioactivity.
Close encounters of the third kind include reports of interaction been
the witnesses and the crew of the alien spaceship.?

?Kenneth Arnold's June 24, 1947 sighting of nine disk-shaped objects
while flying near Mount Rainier, Washington, ushered in the modern era
of UFO sightings. The term "flying saucer" was coined by a reporter
writing about the sighting.?
Passarola: Kenneth Arnold

?Planet Earth has had ongoing historical contact with
extraterrestrials. This interaction can been found in the oral
traditions, written records, stone monuments and hieroglyphs found
throughout the planet.?
?Information left by the ancients about the visitation of
extraterrestrials has appeared in almost every country in the world,
including the United States.?

(..)

?Alexander the Great had two UFO encounters that were recorded. During
his invasion of Asia in 329, while crossing a river, Alexander and his
men saw what was described as gleaming, silver shields in the sky.?

(..)

?In France there was a coin minted in 1680 that actually shows a round
hovering UFO with what appears to be port holes or lights around the
outer rim. Due to the fact that a coin was minted depicting this UFO.
One can only conclude that the UFO must have been seen by many people.
It had to have remained in the air for a long period of time to have
drawn this kind of attention from the governmental powers.?

(..)

?There are frescos throughout Europe which reveal the appearance of
space ships in the skies including one from the 14th century showing a
small human looking man looking over his shoulder as he flies across
the sky in what is clearly a space ship. He is actually being pursued
by a similar craft.?

Unidentified flying object from Wikipedia

?UFO or unidentified flying object, in the original, literal sense
means any airborne object whose nature is not readily known.?

?Nowadays, the term UFO is generally used to mean those cases that are
believed by some to be the spaceships of extraterrestrial aliens. The
modern interest in UFOs started with a claimed sighting by Kenneth
Arnold on June 24, 1947, near Mount Rainier, Washington. Though the
UFOs he saw were not saucer-shaped, he described their movements as
being similar to that of a saucer skipping over water, hence the
origin of the term flying saucer.?

Typical reported characteristics of UFOs

?Saucer, toy-top, or disk-shaped craft without visible or audible
propulsion. (day and night)

Rapidly-moving lights or lights with apparent ability to rapidly
change direction ? the earliest mention of their motion was given as
"saucers skipping on water"

Large triangular craft or triangular light pattern

Cigar-shaped craft with lighted windows (Meteor trails sometimes appear this way)

The number of different shapes, sizes and configurations of claimed
UFOs has been large, with detailed descriptions of chevrons,
equilateral triangles, spheres, domes, diamonds, shapeless black
masses, eggs and cylinders being prevalent.?

Hudson Valley ? 78 words

The Hudson Valley UFO sightings (New York) were one of the most
witnessed and extended incidents of UFO activity ever. Hundreds of
witnesses sighted Boomerang shaped crafts arranged in a triangular
shape flying less that 500 feet above the ground during the New Year
of 1982. These objects have been described as being larger than a
football field with multicolored flashing lights. The Hudson Valley
sightings have been seen over New York and Connecticut between 1982
and 1995.?

Sources of Information:

?Since the beginning of 1983 the residents of the Hudson Valley area
of New York and nearby Connecticut have seen some very strange objects
in the night sky. The UFOs have been described as being larger than a
football field with multicoloured flashing lights. The object seems to
take on a Boomerang shape, but at times it also has appeared circular.
Most witnesses report that it is a solid object made up of some type
of very dark, gun-grey material. The object has been seen by at least
five thousand witnesses which include police officers, scientists, and
people from all walks of life. All indicate that the silent slow
moving UFO was something that they had never seen before and could not
identify.?
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/AndyPage/hudson.htm

?The Hudson River valley of New York state was the site of one of the
most widely witnessed and extended episodes of UFO activity ever.
Literally thousands of witnesses observed the objects, and many photos
and videos were taken. The "siege" begot over 7,000 documented and
investigated sightings of a boomerang-shaped craft or crafts moving
silently through the sky over New York and Connecticut between 1982
and 1995.?
UFO Evidence
http://www.ufoevidence.org/topics/HudsonValley.htm

?New Year's Eve 1982 marked the beginning of one of the most puzzling
UFO cases in recent times: the Hudson Valley "siege." The siege begot
over 7,000 sightings of a boomerang-shaped craft or crafts moving
silently through the sky over New York and Connecticut between 1982
and 1995.?

(..)

The "Westchester Boomerang" was a UFO reported by hundreds of people
in New York State and Connecticut between 1983 and 1986 and described
by most witnesses as a hovering, immense V-shaped series of flashing
lights connected by a dark structure. UFO investigators Imbrogno
(Crosswalks Across the Universe) and Pratt write in detail about the
"close encounters" of some 900 people who filled out "witness forms."

(..)

The "boomerang - shaped," brightly - lit UFOs behaved like brazen
tricksters and interactive provocateurs during their reign of the
night skies. Most often described as "bigger than a football field,"
the silent objects flew less that 500 feet above heavily populated
commercial and residential areas, stopped traffic on freeways, turned
sideways and spiraled through the air like Ferris wheels, dived into
and flew out of bodies of water, hovered over single homes and cars
for minutes on end, responded to lights flashed in their direction
with dramatic light displays of their own, and disappeared over the
horizon in bursts of unbelievable acceleration. Several witnesses
reported that the objects dematerialized - or "vanished" - right
before their eyes.

?The Hudson Valley UFO account is composed of not one, but many
sightings, all similar, and all pointing to one conclusion. There was
something "unexplained" going on in this place only an hour's drive
north of New York City. The Hudson Valley UFO saga began at almost the
beginning of a new year, 1982.?

?As the lights came closer, he could hear a humming sound, and now he
could see that the lights were arranged in a triangular shape, and
there was a solid object of some kind connecting the lights.?

?Descriptions were very similar, if not identical. The object always
moved slowly, and almost silently. It always had many lights, and they
were always in a V-configuration. Some of the witnesses got a close
enough look to say that the craft was large enough to be a "flying
city."

From the UFO Casebook

?The Hudson Valley UFO account is composed of not one, but many
sightings, all similar, and all pointing to one conclusion. There was
something "unexplained" going on in this place only an hour's drive
north of New York City. The Hudson Valley UFO saga began at almost the
beginning of a new year, 1982. Just a short time before midnight,
December 31, 1981, a retired policeman was sitting in his backyard in
Kent, N. Y. He saw a group of strange lights to the south. The lights
were a brilliant red, green, and white, and at first, he thought they
could be coming from an airplane in trouble. It was common for him to
sit and watch the big jets fly over at night. (..) The lights were
moving too slowly to be a plane, and now...they were too low, and
there was no noise from an engine.?

As the lights came closer, he could hear a humming sound, and now he
could see that the lights were arranged in a triangular shape, and
there was a solid object of some kind connecting the lights.

(..)

?A V-shaped row of lights connected by a solid object of some type.
Literally hundreds of witnesses would see this same sight. There was
definitely something unusual going on in the skies over the Hudson
Valley.?

Kenneth Arnold ? 70 words

Kenneth Arnold, Idaho pilot and businessman witnessed the world?s
first documented UFO sighting on June 24, 1947.while flying near Mount
Rainier, Washington. Arnold observed a formation of nine silvery, disc
shaped objects flying in and out of the mountains of the Cascade
Range. The speed was estimated at 1,200 miles per hour and he
described the objects as moving "like a saucer would if you skipped it
across the water."

Sources of Information:

?On June 24, 1947, Kenneth Arnold saw something that would change his
life forever. His experience also served as a catalyst for our modern
UFO craze.?

UFO Casebook

?The modern history of UFOs, though, perhaps begins in 1947 with an
Idaho businessman and pilot named Kenneth Arnold. While flying near
Mount Rainier, Washington, Arnold spotted a formation of nine silvery,
disc shaped objects flying in and out of the mountains of the Cascade
Range. He estimated their speed at some 1,200 miles per hour, more
than twice as fast as any known aircraft of that day. He described the
disc's movements to a reporter as "like pie plates skipping over the
water."

He described the objects as moving "like a saucer would if you skipped
it across the water."
Passarola: Kenneth Arnold
http://www.passarola.com/strange/arnold.html

On June 24 of that year, according to media reports, Boise businessman
and pilot Kenneth Arnold reported seeing nine bright, saucerlike
objects flying at ``incredible'' speed at 10,000 feet altitude along
the Cascade mountains in Washington state.

(..)

?Arnold was in a single-engine Cessna searching for a missing military
transport plane when he noticed the objects flying in and out of
formation about 3 p.m. He clocked them as they moved between Mount
Rainier and Mount Adams and estimated their speed at 1,200 mph.

The objects appeared to fly almost as if fastened together -- if one
dipped, the others did, too. He described the objects as each as big
as a DC-4 passenger plane, ``flat like a pie pan,'' and so shiny that
they reflected the sun like a mirror.?

``That was the total beginning of the publicized reports'' of UFOs,
said Robert Gribble, who runs the UFO Reporting Center hot line in
Seattle.

Passarola: Kenneth Arnold
http://www.passarola.com/strange/pie.html

?At around 3:00 in the afternoon, he was flying at about 9,000 feet,
near Mount Rainier, when a flash of light caught his eye. He turned
and saw a procession of nine very strange objects flying from north to
south in front of his plane. They were flat discs, like pie tins, very
shiny, and they moved erratically, like a "saucer would if you skipped
it across water." Arnold estimated their size at about two-thirds that
of a DC-4, and he calculated their speed at over 1500 mph by timing
their travel between two mountain peaks of known distance.?

?What fascinated Arnold the most was the fact that the flying objects
had no tail, but rather were round, saucer shaped, metallic and highly
polished.?

?It was at this news conference that Arnold gave the world the first
description of a saucer shaped object. The term 'flying saucers' was
coined and the UFO craze began.?

Mexican Air Force Sighting ? 79 words

On March 5, 2004 an Air Force Merlín C26A Bimotor airplane was doing a
routine drug patrol flight between Copalar, Chiapas and the State of
Campeche in Mexico. An object was detected on its radar screen and
eleven objects through its infrared equipment. These objects
surrounded the aircraft and were not visible to the aircraft flight
crew except by use of the electronic detection equipment. The speed
and movements detected by radar confirmed that the objects were not
aircraft.

Sources of Information:

?The Mexican Air Force releases data, including infrared footage, from
a military aircraft that shows what appear to be at least 11 bright
lights moving with great speed. The lights were invisible to the naked
eye, and only 3 objects were detected by radar.?

?An incident that took place on March 5, 2004 on the aerial space of
Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche where an Air Force Merlín C26A Bimotor
airplane was doing a routinary flight to detect a smuggling drug
airplane during an antinarcotics operation.?

?According to the researcher, the encounter occurred on March 5, when
an aircraft belonging to the Mexican Air Force, a Merlin C26/A, was
engaged in drug interdiction patrols. At around 17:00 hours it
detected the presence of 11 objects following it.?

?The routine flight took place between Copalar, Chiapas and the State
of Campeche. The encounter took place near Ciudad del Carmen,
Campeche. It was there that the aircraft, belonging to the 501st Air
Squadron was performing its routine patrol when it suddenly detected
the presence of an object on its radar at an elevation of 3500 meters,
as well as through its infrared equipment (FLIR).?

?The airplane immediately pursued the object, which according to the
video footage, lost itself in the clouds. Minutes later, the presence
of other objects -- for a total of 11 -- was detected. They followed
the aircraft and surrounded it.?

?These UFOs were captured on radar and by the FLIR gear. However, they
were never seen by the aircrew despite having been two miles distant
from the aircraft at one point. The crew consisted of eight monitoring
specialists, among them the pilot, Maj. Magdaleno Castañón Muñoz,
radar operator Lt. Germán Martin Ramirez and FLIR operator Mario
Adrian Vázquez Tellez. These military men were interviewed and claimed
having never seen a similar phenomenon, since the speed and movements
detected by radar confirmed the fact that the [objects] were not
aircraft.?
UFO Casebook

?A Mexican Air Force surveillance aircraft searching for drug runners
spotted the UFOs, which were invisible to the naked eye. The UFOs were
only visible on a special infrared camera.?

?Journalist and long time UFO supporter Jamie Maussan announced that
the objects were real and "intelligent." The UFOs reportedly changed
direction and surrounded the plane chasing them.?

?The Mexican Defense ministry confirmed to Reuters it had provided the
video to Maussan. The video was taken by the Air Force on March 5 over
the eastern coastal state of Campeche.?

From an interview with the pilots:

?Question: When was the first time you became aware of the objects.

Answer: When we made a turn to route ourselves to Campeche, the FLIR
infrared camera operator detected a target without a shape, just a
shine. The target continued being observed with the FLIR. Then we
detected other targets at the left side of the plane. They were eleven
targets. We never had visual contact with them.

Question: The eleven targets appeared on the normal (non- infrared) radar?

Answer. No. The eleven targets were not detected on the radar screen.
Initially, only one target was detected by the radar. Then another
target appeared at one o'clock, that's how we describe the position
that is in front but slightly to our right. And then a third one in
back of the plane. Those were the only three targets that appeared in
the radar screen during the incident. The other ones that were at nine
'o clock, on our left side never appeared on the radar.

Question: There was a time when these objects surrounded you.

Answer: Yes, we can assume that because we had information of a target
in the front, another one slightly to the right, one in the back, and
according to the FLIR several others on our left side. So, we assumed
that we were surrounded. ?

HBCC UFO Research. http://www.hbccufo.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1281

?The objects were detected by advanced drug surveillance radar and
infrared equipment. The equipment was operated by highly skilled Air
Force officers and analyzed by the Department of Defense.

This was a daylight event, happening around 5 pm local time.

The objects were not visible to the aircraft flight crew except by use
of the electronic detection equipment. This rules out the possibility
of balloons being the cause of the sightings.

It has been reported that U.S. military radars also tracked the
objects, believing at first they were drug-carrying aircraft from
South America. That concern was later ruled out by the crew of the
Mexican Air Force plane.?

Coyne Helicopter / UFO Incident ? 88 words

On a helicopter flight between Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio in 1973,
Captain Lawrence Coyne and his crew spotted a red light that was
approaching them on a collision course. The helicopter descended about
2,000 feet in an attempt to evade the object. The light stopped and
hovered in front of the helicopter. They observed a cigar-shaped gray
metallic object that illuminated the cockpit with a green light. After
a few seconds, the object accelerated and moved off to the west and
the helicopter had risen to 3,800 feet.

Sources of information:

Coyne Helicopter Incident
Nr. Mansfield, Ohio
October 18, 1973

?An Army Reserve helicopter crew of four men encountered a gray,
metallic-looking, cigar-shaped object, with unusual lights and
maneuvers, as they were airborne between Columbus and Cleveland,
Ohio."

?On October 18, 1973, at approximately 10:30 PM a UH-1H helicopter of
the United States Army Reserve left Port Columbus, Ohio, for its home
base of Cleveland Hopkins airport, ninety-six nautical miles to the
north-northeast. In command, in the right-front seat, was Captain
Lawrence J. Coyne, thirty-six, with nineteen years of flying
experience.?

?A red light had turned toward the helicopter and appeared to be on a
converging flight path.?

?The red light continued its radial bearing and increased greatly in
intensity. Coyne increased his rate of descent to 2,000 feet per
minute and his airspeed to 100 knots. The last altitude he noted was
1,700 feet. Just as a collision appeared imminent, the unknown light
halted in its westward course and assumed a hovering relationship
above and in front of the helicopter. "It wasn't cruising, it was
stopped.

(..)

?Coyne, Healey, and Yanacsek agree that a cigar-shaped, slightly domed
object substended an angle of nearly the width of the front
windshield. A featureless, gray, metallic-looking structure was
precisely delineated against the background stars. Yanacsek reported
"a suggestion of windows" along the top dome section. The red light
emanated from the bow, a white light became visible at a slightly
indented stern, and then, from aft/below, a green 'pyramid shaped"
beam equated to a directional spotlight became visible. The green
beam passed upward over the helicopter nose, swung up through the
windshield, continued upward and entered the tinted upper window
panels. At that point (and not before), the cockpit was enveloped in
green light.?

?There was no noise from the object or turbulence during the
encounter, except for one "bump" as the object moved away to the west.
After the object had broken off its hovering relationship, Jezzi and
Coyne noted that the magnetic compass disk was rotating approximately
four times per minute and that the altimeter read approximately 3,500
feet; a 1,000 foot-per-minute climb was in progress.?

National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena
http://www.nicap.dabsol.co.uk/coyne.htm

?Army Reserve helicopter pilot Capt. Lawrence Coyne is a military
commander who doesn't believe in unidentified flying objects (UFOs) or
little green spacemen. But after a near miss two weeks ago between his
helicopter and a "big, gray, metallic-looking" object in the sky over
Mansfield, he doesn't know what to think.?

Coyne said when he first encountered the UFO, his helicopter was
cruising at 2,500 feet. He had the controls set for a 20-degree dive,
but the craft climbed to 3,500 feet with no power.

(..)

?It had a big, gray metallic-looking hull about 60 feet long." "It was
shaped like an airfoil or a streamlined fat cigar. There was a red
light on the front. The leading edge glowed red a short distance back
from the nose. There was a center dome. A green light at the rear
reflected on the hull."

?Coyne said the green light swiveled like a spotlight and beamed
through the canopy of his craft, bathing the cabin in green light.?

UFO Casebook
http://www.ufocasebook.com/coyne.html

It was about 11 p.m. on Oct. 18, 1973, when an Army Reserve helicopter
came perilously close to colliding with an unidentified flying object.

"Capt. Larry Coyne was the pilot,"

?One of the guys in the back reported a red light.?

"Then I heard 'I think its coming toward us'," Jezzi said. "The next
thing I knew Larry took control of the throttle. We went into a
maneuver, a controlled free fall. We dropped about 2,000 feet."

?Jezzi said if Coyne had not made the drastic maneuver there would
have been a collision.?

(..)

?The incident was documented by witnesses on the ground. In UFO lore
the "Coyne Incident" is regarded as one of the most reliable UFO
sightings of all time.?

Mansfield News Journal
http://www.mansfieldnewsjournal.com/news/stories/20031018/localnews/476885.html

?The four-man crew of an Army Reserve UH-1H helicopter, based in
Cleveland, Ohio, was returning from Columbus, Ohio, at about 10:30
p.m. following regularly scheduled physical examinations.?

(..)

?About 11:00 p.m. near Mansfield, Ohio, Healey saw a red light off to
the left (west) heading south. Three or four minutes later, Yanacek
noticed a single steady red light on the eastern horizon, and reported
it to Coyne.?

?As the light continued its approach, Coyne grabbed the controls from
Jezzi and began a powered descent of approximately 500 feet per
minute.?

(..)

?The red light appeared to be on a collision course, approaching at a
speed estimated to be more than 600 knots. Coyne increased the rate of
descent to 2,000 feet per minute until they reached about 1,700 feet,
about 600 feet above the tree tops. (..) Just as a collision appeared
imminent, the light suddenly stopped and hovered above and in front of
the helicopter. They saw a cigar-shaped, gray metallic appearing,
domed object whose apparent size filled the entire windshield.?

?The object appeared solid, blotting out the stars behind it. It had a
red light at the nose, a white light at the tail, and a distinctive
green beam emanating from the lower part of the otherwise featureless
"fuselage." The green beam swung up over the helicopter nose, through
the windshield, and into the upper tinted window panels. The cockpit
was bathed in intense green light. No noise or turbulence was noted.
After a few seconds, the object accelerated and moved off to the
west.?

(..)

?While the object was still visible, Jezzi and Coyne both noted that
the altimeter read 3,500 feet with a rate of climb of 1,000 feet per
minute. Yet the collective (steering mechanism) was still in the
full-down position set during the descent.

The Frederick Valentich Disappearance ? 80 words

Frederick Valentich disappeared in a Cessna 182 over Bass Strait while
flying from Melbourne to King Island Australia on October 21, 1978. He
reported to air traffic controllers in Melbourne that he was being
followed by a UFO about 1000 feet above him. He claimed that the
cigar shaped object has a green light and a sort of metallic light on
the outside. His last words were "It is not an aircraft." Frederick
Valentich and the Cessna were never found.

Sources of Information:

?During the evening of October 21, 1978, twenty year old Australian
Pilot Frederick Valentich disappeared over Bass Strait, while flying
from Melbourne's Moorabbin Airport to King Island, off the coast of
Victoria. His last communication occurred at 7:12 p.m., during the
largest UFO flap in Australian history. Nearly fourteen years after
that fatal Saturday evening, no trace has ever been found of either
the pilot or his blue and white Cessna model 182 aircraft.?

?It is a confirmed fact that many UFOs were reported in the vicinity
of King Island and the area around Bass Strait on that day and night.
Two months prior to this fateful event, we were receiving increasing
telephone calls from individuals reporting strange lights in the sky.?

pilot who disappeared with his plane on Saturday night after radioing
that he was being chased by a UFO. Frederick Valentich was on a 125
mile training flight in his single engine Cessna 182 along the coast
of Bass Strait when he told air traffic controllers in Melbourne that
he was being buzzed by a UFO with 4 bright lights about 1000 feet
above him.?

Controllers said his last message was taped and was: "It's approaching
from due east towards me. It seems to be playing some sort of game...
flying at a speed I can't estimate. It's not an aircraft. It's...It is
flying past. It is a long shape. I cannot identify more than that.
It's coming for me right now." A minute later: "It seems to be
stationary. I'm also orbiting and the thing is orbiting on top of me
also. It has a green light and a sort of metallic light on the
outside." Valentich then radioed that his engine was running roughly.
His last words were: "It is not an aircraft."

The Australian Air Force said it had received 11 reports from people
along the coast who said they saw UFOs on Saturday night, but the
Transport Department was skeptical.

Excerpts from the communication between Valentich and Melbourne Flight
Service as released by the Australian Department of Transport:

"Valentich: Melbourne, this is Delta Sierra Juliet. Is there any known
traffic below five thousand?
Melbourne: No known traffic.
Valentich: I am... seems to be a large aircraft below five thousand.
Melbourne: What type of aircraft is it?
Valentich: I cannot affirm. It is four bright... it seems to me like
landing lights.
Valentich: Melbourne, this is Delta Sierra Juliet. The aircraft has
just passed over me at least a thousand feet above...
Melbourne: Roger.. and it... it is a large aircraft? Confirm.
Valentich: ... er unknown due to the speed it's traveling. Is there
any airforce aircraft in the vicinity?
Melbourne: No known aircraft in the vicinity.?

(..)

Melbourne: ...roger... and how large would the... er... object be?
Valentich: ... it seems like it's stationary... what I'm doing right
now is orbiting and the thing is just orbiting on top of me... also,
its got a green light and sort of metallic like... it's all shiny on
the outside...
Valentich: (open microphone for five seconds)... it's just vanished...

(..)

Valentich: ... my intentions are... ah... to go to King Island...
ah... Melbourne that strange aircraft is hovering on top of me
again... (two seconds open microphone)... it is hovering and it's not
an aircraft...
Valentich: ... (17 seconds open microphone)...

"No official reason for the disappearance was found ?

"No further transmissions were received."

?Frederick Valentich, 20, was a keen flyer and was also a keen UFO
reader. On October 21st 1978 he decided to take his Cessna from
Melbourne and fly over the Bass Strait up to King Island. Valentich
knew that in the last week there had been numerous reports of strange
cigar-shaped objects spotted in the Bass Strait area.?

?Valentich replied "Four bright....seems to me like landing
lights....just passed over me. At least a 1000 feet above."
