List as many cities (preferably well-known) as you can whose names are
often (or could be) used as girl's names. I prefer names with two or
three syllables.

So far I've thought of Sydney, Madison, Phoenix, and Florence. Winona
[e.g. Ryder] isn't that well-known and sounds too unusual to me.

I'll leave a nice tip if you can think of some good ones that I missed.

FYI: These names will be used for fictional characters (although I
won't rule out the possibility of using them for future daughters).

Thanks for all your suggestions so far (please keep them coming!). So
far my favorites are Cheyenne and Brooklyn, and Victoria, Alexandria,
Mackenzie, Charlotte, and Lucerne are good too. I once knew a young
woman named Carolina (pronounced "Caroleena", she was from Chile), so
that works too.

probonopublico-ga: Victoria is also the capital of British Columbia. :)

markj-ga: Paris is also to be found in Texas. :)

Victoria!

The name of my elder daughter.

There's Victoria Falls (which she did when a toddler), Victoria
Station and even a STATE of VICTORIA somewhere in one of our colonies.

Next thing you know, someone will even name a Queen accordingly.

Alexandria may have too many syllables, but I think it's a lovely name.

we have a nearby city called Anacortes.

at first glance people think this comes from some Spanish explorer
wontonly claiming place names, but in reality it was a developer who
named the place after his mistress, Anna Curtis.

I always thought Carmel was a nice name for a girl. Peoria? Mackenzie? Olympia?

Try this goto the following website
www.usacops.com
select a State
select Police
search the site there should be plenty of girls names there

This would probably cover most cities/towns in the USA

I am not a Google Researcher

Kind regards

Markj-GA had Paris but for some reason skipped London (a classmate of
my daughter's was London England). We could go a long way with
capitals, as there was a Tokyo Rose:

*  Sofia
*  Cali
*  Riga
*  Cheyenne
*  Charlotte
*  Killen (TX)
*  Elizabeth (NJ)
* Ann (make her middle name Arbor)
*  Aurora (IL or CO)

Best regards,

Here's a recapitulation of what I have come up with so far (including
one new addition and a little bit of annotation:

Ada (OK)

Adelaide (Australia)

Augusta (ME and GA)

Brooklyn (Falls into the "could be" category and, of course, it's most
famous location is not a city but a borough. Naming one's own
daughter Brooklyn might be chancy, but it could make an interesting
choice for a fictional character.)

Charlotte (NC)

Geneva (Switzerland and IL)

Helena (MT)

Lucerne (Switzerland) (Falls into the "could be" category.)

Paris (France)

Portland (ME and OR)

Selma (AL)

I'm suprised no one's mentioned Chelsea yet. Chelsea Clinton is named
after Chelsea, London, England.

Also: Anna, Ohio
Sharon, Pennsylvania
Cali, Columbia
Valencia, Spain
Kalyan, India
Adana, Turkey
Merida, Mexico
Morelia, Mexico
Reynosa, Mexico
Bratislava, Slovakia
Murcia, Spain
Olinda, Brazil
Salonika, Greece
Dimona, Israel
Tamra, Israel

There are towns named Ramona and Henryetta (yes, that's how they spell
it) in my home state of Oklahoma.

Omnivorous-ga points out the best one I found. My 3 year old daughter
is named Cheyenne. Robert Heinlein used the state name of Wyoming for
a character in "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" as well.
