Victoria! The name of my elder daughter. There's Victoria Falls (which she did when a toddler), Victoria Station and even a STATE of VICTORIA somewhere in one of our colonies. Next thing you know, someone will even name a Queen accordingly. |

Alexandria may have too many syllables, but I think it's a lovely name. |

we have a nearby city called Anacortes. at first glance people think this comes from some Spanish explorer wontonly claiming place names, but in reality it was a developer who named the place after his mistress, Anna Curtis. I always thought Carmel was a nice name for a girl. Peoria? Mackenzie? Olympia? ts |

Markj-GA had Paris but for some reason skipped London (a classmate of my daughter's was London England). We could go a long way with capitals, as there was a Tokyo Rose: * Sofia * Cali * Riga * Cheyenne * Charlotte * Killen (TX) * Elizabeth (NJ) * Ann (make her middle name Arbor) * Aurora (IL or CO) Best regards, Omnivorous-GA |

Here's a recapitulation of what I have come up with so far (including one new addition and a little bit of annotation: Ada (OK) Adelaide (Australia) Augusta (ME and GA) Brooklyn (Falls into the "could be" category and, of course, it's most famous location is not a city but a borough. Naming one's own daughter Brooklyn might be chancy, but it could make an interesting choice for a fictional character.) Charlotte (NC) Geneva (Switzerland and IL) Helena (MT) Lucerne (Switzerland) (Falls into the "could be" category.) Paris (France) Portland (ME and OR) Selma (AL) |

Omnivorous-ga points out the best one I found. My 3 year old daughter is named Cheyenne. Robert Heinlein used the state name of Wyoming for a character in "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" as well. |
