Hello, czh-ga! Upon looking at the pictures, my friend said that
unfortunately none of them contained the picture that she saw. The one
she saw appeared much more professional and planned (as if taken in a
studio) also had a solid background (no trees or cluttered background
as shown in the pictures you provided). She recalls that the lion was
standing instead of lying down.
Would you like to do some more searching before we close out this

Does your friend remember where she saw this photo? Was it online, in
a magazine, or ? Was it used to illustrate a story? Was it used as a
poster? Could it have been a high concept ad? I keep running into
blind alleys. Any additional hints would be useful. Thanks.

My friend saw it online, on a website. She remembers it was in a
gallery (cannot remember what other pictures were so they must have
been unremarkable for her). It was on either one of those
photo-hosting websites or the photographer's own website. You
mentioned magazine; it is quite possible the picture had been scanned
in and then posted on the website by the photographer or even a fan,
although there was no mention of that.
We kept running into dead ends as well and have come to a possible
conclusion: the picture may have been hidden or taken off for some
reason (to allow room for new pictures, website too new, search
engines are blocked, et cetera).
If you still cannot find it, don't worry, my friend can live with the
memory for now. ;-) She thinks she will come across it again someday
since she enjoys browsing through photographs often, both online and
in books/magazines. We can go ahead and close out this question.

Hello jaspera-ga,
This has been most frustrating. I get obsessive about this kind of a
search but I'm disappointed to have to tell you that after hours of
searching I can't find your friend's picture. Based on what you've
told me, I suggest that she should visit any photo sharing websites
where she is a member and search for "lion belly." I've had good luck
finding additional photos beyond the ones I posted as a result of this
search string. It's too bad that none of them are the picture you're
looking for.
If you like, I will ask the editors to withdraw my answer so other
people can keep trying. Or, you could post a new question that clearly
summarizes everything you've tried and maybe someone else can come up
with the answer.

We know about feeling obsessed and frustrated all too well. It is
indeed too bad we all couldn't find this particular picture. My friend
and I will keep looking, though. Looking through the photo-sharing
websites is a good idea and one that we definitely will do.

I bear good news, czh--
My friend received a tip that the picture she described is the work of
a photographer named James Balog. Sure enough, after looking through a
book, she spotted the lion picture! While the website (where she
originally saw the picture) still eludes her, she at least has the
photographer's name in her possession. Also, Balog has published a few
books one of which my friend plans to purchase for herself. All's well
that ends well. :-) Thought I'd share this happy finale' with you and
put your mind to rest. Again, thanks!

wonderful lion portrait. Unfortunately none of them are the one you?re
looking for. The Aurora Photos site has lots of examples of how he
shoots his animal portraits. I imagine the photo you?re looking for
was one of these.

Wow, the Aurora Photo website is pretty cool. My friend was surprised
and perplexed that her favorite elusive picture indeed wasn't there.
Nevertheless, many of the other pictures are wonderfully done and we

czh, you are AMAZING! You rule. We FINALLY captured the particular
lion picture using your link to gettyimages! I tried to establish a
link, but somehow it didn't work. However, it is picture # 10182843.

On top of this, the other pictures are indeed incredible. Many of them
appear to be brand new (we didn't see them in our previous searches).
